KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City, Missouri, City Council has authorized Mayor Quinton Lucas to negotiate a contract extension with City Manager Brian Platt through Aug. 1, 2027
City Hall sources tell KSHB 41 News Platt has agreed to negotiate a contract extension and will withdraw his name from consideration for the city manager job in Texas.
The KCMO City Council authorized Lucas to pursue the extension after returning from a closed session Thursday evening.
Platt's office issued a statement Friday morning: "Thursday night, the Kansas City Council voted for the Mayor to negotiate a new contract for City Manager Brian Platt. No terms are agreed upon. No contract is signed."
Platt was named Tuesday as one of three finalists for the city manager job in Austin.
He was scheduled to visit Austin March 25-26 to meet with city officials, participate in a community town hall and conduct interviews.
Lucas said Tuesday, when Austin's interest became public, that his office would work to retain Platt in KCMO.
His current contract is set to expire at the end of 2024.
